This page describes what the magazine's website does with information about you. It is written to be accurate, not reassuring.

Reading

Reading articles requires no account. The site sets no advertising cookies and loads no advertising or social-media tracking pixels. This demo edition loads no analytics at all; if analytics are ever enabled, they will be described here first.

Saved articles, language and appearance

Saving an article, or choosing light or dark mode, stores that choice in your browser on this device only. Your language choice is part of the address you visit, not a stored profile. Nothing is sent to us. Clearing site data removes it.

Forms and the Telegram bot

In this demo edition, the Share your story, corrections and contact forms are not connected to anything. Nothing you type is sent or stored. In the live edition, submissions go to a private editorial inbox accessible only to editors. Contact details are stored separately from the text of a submission, are never published and are never copied into an article. Submissions are not sent to analytics or error-reporting services and are kept for a defined retention period, after which unneeded data is deleted. The submissions page loads no third-party scripts, pixels or session recording.

The Telegram bot, when it is available, is a private channel to the editors — not an anonymous one. Telegram shows us your account name and identifier, and Telegram itself holds your messages under its own policy. The bot never asks for a phone number, passport, address or bank details, and we ask you not to send them.

Anonymity — the honest version

We will not publish your name without your permission. That is a promise about what we publish. It is not a promise that nobody could ever determine who sent a form: a web form passes through your device, your network and our hosting provider, none of which we fully control. For sensitive matters, wait for the separately operated secure channel when it becomes available, or contact us another way.

Hosting and domain

The site's hosting provider and domain registrar hold technical logs and registration details under their own policies. Hiding registration details from public lookup services does not make a publisher anonymous to the registrar, to payment providers or to authorities, and we do not claim otherwise.
